# Create your first event and open registration

> Follow the essential steps to create an event, configure tickets and payments, publish it on your website, and verify a booking.

Start with one event and a ticket offer your guests can understand. You can add more features after the booking flow works.

<Note>
  First connect your [website or store](/plugins/website-setup). For Shopify, follow the [Shopify quickstart](/plugins/connect-shopify), which includes product publishing and theme setup in the right order.
</Note>

## 1. Open the right workspace and create an event

In the Ticket Spot dashboard, select your site from the workspace menu and open **Events → Create Event**. A workspace holds that site's events, settings, and design.

Choose a template in **What are you hosting?**, or choose **Start from scratch**. Use the [event-type guides](/event-types/overview) for the starting choices that match a class, tour, concert, or other activity.

In guided setup, use **Continue later** to create a draft while you finish the details. **Create my event** can publish as soon as its requirements are met. In the full editor, enter the required title and description and select **Create Event** to save the initial draft.

## 2. Set the details guests need

Open **Manage event** on the saved event. Complete these essentials:

| Set up | Check before moving on |
| - | - |
| [Event details](/event-management/eventdetails) | Clear name, description, event timezone, and intended visibility. |
| [Dates and times](/event-management/datetime) | Real start/end dates and times; replace suggested values. For a series, check every offered occurrence. |
| [Venue or online location](/event-management/venuelocation) | The address or joining information guests need. |
| [Tickets](/event-management/ticket-setup) | Paid tickets or free RSVP, correct currency and price, and the number of places available. |

If you offer several ticket types for one space, check [shared capacity and ticket limits](/event-management/ticket-capacity). Assigned seating also needs a [published seating chart with ticket categories](/seating-charts/create-and-assign).

The [full event editor guide](/event-management/create-event-overview) explains each step and why some controls may be hidden.

## 3. Confirm how guests will pay

For paid tickets, use the payment setup for your selling route. **Shopify product purchases use Shopify checkout and its payment settings.** Other platforms and embedded ticket checkout have their own applicable setup; follow your [website guide](/plugins/website-setup) and [payment workflow](/account/get-paid#choose-the-correct-payment-workflow).

Check that your [plan supports the ticket offer](/account/billing-and-plans) and that the saved ticket price is correct. For free RSVP, verify that checkout shows no charge.

## 4. Prepare confirmation and publish on your website

Review [confirmation emails](/event-management/email-communication) and any essential [registration questions](/event-management/additional-information). Check that the venue or joining instructions will reach your guests. You can also add your [logo and colors](/branding-and-design/brand-design).

Save the event and use its applicable [publish controls](/event-management/manage-events#publish-event). Check the resulting event status. Then complete your website guide's installation or storefront steps:

* [Shopify product and Ticket Selector](/plugins/connect-shopify)
* [Wix event widget](/plugins/connect-wix)
* [Ecwid event products](/plugins/connect-ecwid)
* [WordPress shortcode](/plugins/connect-wordpress)
* [Squarespace](/plugins/connect-squarespace) or [another website's embed code](/plugins/embed-on-your-website)

Saving an event, publishing it in Ticket Spot, and making it available on a connected website are separate checks.

## 5. Complete a booking before you share

Open the actual public website as a visitor, including on a phone. Select the date and tickets, complete a registration or purchase, and check the confirmation, delivered tickets, and attendee record in Ticket Spot.

Use the [launch checklist](/getting-started/launch-checklist) to verify the complete journey. Once it passes, share the public event or storefront link you tested.

## Choose your next step

Add the features your event needs: [recurring sessions](/event-management/timed-entry-and-passes), [waitlists](/event-management/waitlist), [memberships](/memberships/overview), or [event add-ons](/event-management/event-add-ons). Before guests arrive, [prepare your team and check-in](/guides/run-your-event).
